No tsunami generated by Alaska earthquake

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off Alaska on Wednesday, but did not generate a Pacific-wide tsunami. The quake, centered 82 miles west-southwest of Adak in the Aleutian Islands occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Hawai`i time at a depth of 21.7 miles. The quake was originally reported as a 6.9 magnitude, but was later reduced to 6.4.
