HONOLULU (AP) — U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye is criticizing former Governor Linda Lingle for a campaign ad that pictures the two side by side and says Inouye would still be powerful even if he's no longer chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Inouye said that the ad for the Republican U.S. Senate candidate is misleading and suggests a relationship that doesn't exist.
Lingle campaign manager Bob Lee says in the spot posted online that even if the GOP wins a majority in the Senate, Inouye would still be powerful as the top Democrat on thecommittee. Committees in the House and Senate are led by legislators of whichever party is in power. Lingle is running against U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono.
