Man arrested in HI to change plea in VP threat

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) — A former U.S. service member arrested in Honolulu for allegedly sending emails from Thailand threatening to kill Vice President Joe Biden is expected to withdraw his not guilty plea.

Justin Alan Woodward is scheduled for a hearing in federal court Thursday to change his plea.

Secret Service agents arrested Woodward last year at the Honolulu airport when he arrived on a flight from Bangkok.

According to the criminal complaint, he admitted to agents that he wrote the threatening messages, including one sent to the White House website. The Royal Thai Police traced the IP address to a public Wi-Fi access point in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

He told officials he was medically discharged from the U.S Marine Corps for bipolar disorder.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail.
