Pearl Harbor survivor interred on USS Arizona

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) — Glenn Lane lived to be 93 after surviving the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Now he's been laid to rest inside the USS Arizona alongside the shipmates he left behind.

A Navy diver placed an urn containing Lane's ashes in a gun turret on the Arizona during a ceremony Wednesday.

His daughter, Trish Lane Anderson, says he always wanted to rejoin his departed shipmates when he died.

Lane was a 23-year-old radioman on Dec. 7, 1941. He retired in Oak Harbor, Wash. as a master chief after 30 years in the Navy.

Most of the 12 ships that sank or were beached in the attack were removed from the harbor. Just the USS Utah and the Arizona remain. Only survivors of these vessels may return in death to their ships.
