Unattended candle triggers fire at Volcano home

An unattended candle caused the fire that destroyed a home in Volcano’s Mauna Loa Estate late Saturday. Firefighters arrived on scene at the corner of 7th and Pearl Streets at 11:28 p.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames. The occupants were home at the time, but escaped injury. The fire was brought under control at 1:30 a.m. Sunday and extinguished at 2:00 a.m. Damage estimates totaled $210,000.
