Two employees fired by embattled Hawai`i County Clerk Jamae Kawauchi filed defamation lawsuits against her, County Council Chairman Dominic Yagong, and the county on Wednesday. Plaintiffs attorney Ted Hong said he'll ask for more than $500,000 each in damages for Pat Nakamoto and Shyla Ayau in the lawsuit. Hong
claims that their firings were based on a sloppy, biased investigation and said that the County Council had rejected proposals to resolve the matter that included reinstatement
of their jobs, an apology and $10,000 in damages for each employee and $10,000 in legal fees. Yagong and Kawauchi have declined comment.
