DUI arrests spike

Police arrested 35 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, including six who were involved in accidents during the week ending August 27, 2012. The year to date total now stands at 947, which is 2.8 percent less than the 974 arrested at this time last year. Major accidents are up 5.4 percent at 981 compared to 931 a year ago. And fatalities are up over 70 percent at 26 compared to 15 over the same period a year ago.
