Hawi man killed in motorcycle mishap

A 65-year-old Hawi man has died from injuries he sustained Monday in a motorcycle crash 1 mile west of Pololu Loop in North Kohala. Police say James Wright and a 49-year old Hawi woman were heading east on Akoni Pule Highway shortly before 1:30 p.m.when his motorcycle crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree. Wright and his passenger were taken to North Hawai`i Community Hospital and later flown to Queen’s Medical Center on O`ahu where Wright died at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday. The Big Island’s traffic death toll for 2012 now stands at 26, compared to 15 a year ago.
