CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — U.S. House candidate Tulsi Gabbard says President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are the best leaders for military veterans and their families.
The former Honolulu councilwoman told the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina Tuesday that veterans deserve leaders who care about their needs. She called Obama and Biden along with their wives "the strongest advocates" for veterans.
Gabbard spoke during a segment led by House minority leader Nancy Pelosi, drawing loud cheers after announcing she was an Army National Guard captain. She is hoping to replace Congresswoman Mazie Hirono, who is running for U.S. Senate. Gabbard won a surprise victory in the Democratic primary last month and is a heavy favorite to beat Republican Kawika Crowley in November.
