Council Chairman Dominic Yagong has denied he was near any sensitive election material after someone complained he was seen in a secured election area last week at the clerk's office in Hilo. Yagong’s daughter Chelsea is seeking the council seat
he is leaving in December due to the term limits law and his unsuccessful bid for Mayor.
State elections rules bar candidates` relatives from working as precinct officials at polling places. Yagong says he was helping to inventory election supply boxes that do not contain ballots or other sensitive material. However, state elections officials have
forwarded a complaint about the incident to the Hawai`i County Board of Ethics.
