HONOLULU (AP) — One-half of a longtime, popular Hawai`i musical duo has been released early from a Los Angeles jail because of overcrowding. Cecilio Rodriguez was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading no contest to molesting two young California girls in the 1990s. He was also sentenced to 52 weeks of sexual-offender
counseling and five years' probation. Prosecutors say Rodriguez was on tour and staying with the victims' family in Carson, Calif., at various times when the molestation occurred.
But according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records, the 67-year-old Rodriguez was released July 17 after serving nearly five months because of jail overcrowding. Rodriguez is part of the group Cecilio & Kapono, which formed on Oahu's North Shore in 1973.
