Lava slowly advances toward ocean

Surface flows from Kilauea are advancing toward the ocean at Kalapana, but the closest flows are still about a mile away. The U.S. Geological Survey says surface flows remain active on the pali and coastal plain, but have not made significant progress. The forested areas on the pali are some of the last remaining portions of the Royal Gardens Subdivision that have yet to be covered by lava.
