KAHULUI, Hawaii (AP) — A Maui patrol officer is being credited with saving a Kahului family from their burning home.
The officer was passing the burning home early Monday when he stopped to wake up the occupants. The fire department says he evacuated them and used a fire extinguisher to control the blaze.
None of the dozen people living in the home were injured.
Fire crews extinguished the fire, which an investigation shows was started by a pot on the stove.
