East Hawai`i residents expressed their displeasure this week at a public hearing on proposed rules for a new entity charged with developing state lands. More than 100 people turned out Monday evening at Waiakea High School to comment on the new Public Land Development Corporation, which was created to foster public-private partnerships with companies to develop recreational facilities throughout the state. Speaker after speaker called for the abolishment of the agency, which they claim has been given sweeping powers to sidestep important zoning and land use checks and balances.
