Tulsi Gabbard has resigned from her seat on the Honolulu City Council, representing the areas of Makiki to Aiea Heights, including Downtown Honolulu. Her decision, following Saturday’s win in the District Two Democratic Congressional primary is effective immediately, and means the election to fill the remaining two years of her current term can be held in conjunction with the November 6th general election. City Council Chairman Ernie Martin said people who want to run for Gabbard's seat have from August 22 through August 31 to submit nomination papers with election officials. Former council member Jon Yoshimura has already said he’ll run.
