HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Hawaii's chief elections officer says Big Island precinct chairs will be interviewed to find out how many primary polls opened late and why.
Scott Nago tells the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he hasn't been able to get that information from Hawaii County Clerk Jamae Kawauchi.
She hasn't responded to calls for comment. West Hawaii Today reports she wasn't at a media briefing in Hilo after a two-hour debriefing of county clerks on Tuesday.
Council Chairman Dominic Yagong says she told him election workers delivered precinct cans containing poll books to the wrong precincts. Taking them to the right locations over long distances led to delays of up to 1 ½ hours.
The delays led to the governor issuing a proclamation to keep Big Island polls open 90 minutes later.
