Voters will have the opportunity to size up candidates for Prosecuting Attorney and the County Council tonight at Aunty Sally’s in Hilo. The event sponsored by the American
Association of University Women and League of Women Voters will get underway at 6pm with the candidates for County Prosecutor fielding questions from the audience. Event spokeswoman Helen Hemmes expects a wide open discussion of issues.
“We are really depending on questions from the audience,” Hemmes said. “There are as far as I know, no selected questions. They will be coming from the audience.”
At 7pm, candidates for the county council in districts 1 and 2 will discuss issues with voters in a speed dating format. Hemmes said the candidates should have some real hot button issues to discuss.
“Probably budget issues. How they’ll treat county waste in terms of transporting it to West Hawai`i,” Hemmes said. “And I think one of the issues also has been the pension for county employees and holding off paying that.”
The doors open to the public at 5:30 p.m. If you can’t be there, the forums will air via delayed broadcast on KPUA beginning on Thursday.
