Hurricane Emilia forecast to weaken in Pacific

MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Emilia is forecast to begin slowly weakening as it moves across the Pacific, far from land. The Category 2 hurricane has maximum sustained winds near 105 mph (165 kph) early Wednesday with slow weakening expected to begin during the next two days. The hurricane is centered about 720 miles (1,160 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California and is moving west-northwest near 10 mph (17 kph). Farther west, Tropical Storm Daniel is headed toward the central Pacific. Daniel's maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 kph). The storm is centered about 1,055 miles (1,700 kilometers) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, and is moving west near 16 mph (26 kph).
