The University of Hawai’i at Hilo will soon welcome its new $4 million state-of-the-art College Campus Store, which will replace the existing bookstore near the Old Gym.
Construction is about 90 percent complete and is expected to wrap up in August.Incoming store manager Jason Tanaka said the new location will open in the fall.
“We won’t move into this location until October, just to get done with the fall rush and then move up to this new location,” Tanaka said. “And we’ll be open for the spring semester where the students will start buying their books here.”
The one-story addition to the Campus Center spans 8,500 square feet with a configured layout that includes textbook, computer, apparel and café areas. It will become the primary outlet for the sale of textbooks, materials, school supplies, various merchandise including Vulcan logo clothing, sundry items, snacks, computers, and computer accessories.
The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, with extended seasonal hours. An official grand opening is expected to be held in the fall.
