The Hawaiian Ocean View Estates water well is now providing water to residents of the remote Ka`u subdivision. Last week’s formal dedication marked the end of a long, hard struggle to get the project completed. But State Representative Bob Herkes said
the effort was worth it.
“We really had some problems, and so this is a very special day to see water actually come out of one of those pipes over there,” Herkes said.
This publicly funded $6 million project establishes a basic drinking water system complete with a well, storage tank, transmission pipeline, and fill station for the Ocean
View community. The Department of Water Supply said the project was procured as a two-stage design-build in order to encumber the funding within the legislature’s 2-year timeline. Audio for this report was provided by Big Island Video News.
