The state has received $6 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support its work on health care outcomes and health-related emergency preparedness. Hawaii's Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) will receive $1.9 million,
and Hawaii's part of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness cooperative agreement (PHEP) will receive $4.9 million.
HPP funding supports preparedness for health care systems, health care coalitions and health care organizations; while PHEP funding supports the preparedness of state, local, and territorial public health systems. Overall the federal department is granting $971 million to each state, eight U.S. territories and four of the nation's largest metropolitan areas.
