Hilo Bay Blast highlights 4th of July celebrations

The Big Island is gearing up for the Fourth of July. East Hawai`i festivities begin at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow with a 5K run at Liliuokalani Gardens. The annual Hilo Bay Blast gets underway at 10:00 a.m. with a wide range of family-oriented events, according to Department of Parks and Recreation spokesman Jason Armstrong.
“This drug and alcohol free event will feature dancing and musical performances, keiki games and a classic car show, a statewide barbecue cook-off, team skateboard competition, and a night time fireworks display,” Armstrong said.
Free shuttle rides will be provided from the parking areas at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium, Mooheau Bus Terminal and Aupuni Center. Kailua-Kona will have a Fourth of July parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by an 8:00 p.m. fireworks display, and the Waikoloa Beach Resort will host an all day event beginning at 11:00 a.m. featuring live entertainment, balloon sculpting, the Zoo-Choo and concluding with fireworks at 8:00 p.m. See schedule of events.
