Kona man charged with auto theft

A Kailua man is scheduled to appear in Kona District Court today on auto theft and other charges stemming from an attempted traffic stop and car chase. An officer on routine patrol Wednesday observed 28-year old Matthew Guba, who he knew lacked a valid driver’s license, driving a vehicle. A chase ensued, but Guba was able to elude police who subsequently found the vehicle, which had been stolen at the intersection of Kiloa and Kinue Roads. Guba was arrested at his home shortly before noon Saturday.
