Texas woman drowns off Kohala Coast

Police are investigating the apparent drowning of a Texas woman along the Kohala Coast on Sunday. 71-year old Sokoon Yu of Flour Mound, Texas was reportedly snorkeling with a tour group in waters fronting the resort on the block of 74-5000 Queen Kaahumanu Highway around 10am, when she became unresponsive. Workers from the tour group pulled Yu from the water, performed CPR and took her to shore, where Fire Rescue personnel continued efforts to revive her and transported the woman to North Hawai`i Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly before 8:00 p.m. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
