Kona man dies from injuries he sustained in car crash

Police say that a 58-year old Kailua-Kona man has died from injuries he sustained in a single motor vehicle crash on June 11 off Old Māmalahoa Highway in Kailua. William Lawrence was working on a 1983 Toyota Tacoma truck shortly after 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle began rolling downhill. Lawrence attempted to stop the vehicle, but was pulled underneath it as it picked up speed, eventually striking a rock wall and landing on top of him. Lawrence was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m. on Thursday, June 14. Because this death occurred on a private road, it is not counted in the official traffic fatality count.
