Strong winds snapped a utility pole in half near Highway 19 and Highway 190on Sunday. Nearly 5,900 customers from Kamuela to Kawaihae were without power following the 4:20 p.m. mishap. Helco trouble crews had power restored to all but about 1,700 customers as of 9:00 p.m. last night. Motorists were being asked to avoid Highway 190 near Lindsey Road while the pole was being replaced, but repairs have been completed and that section of roadway has been re-opened.
