A statewide Wind Advisory is in effect for gusty trade winds, with a High Wind Warning posted for the Big Island summit areas and the Leeward Kohala section until 6 pm Monday. The National Weather Service says strong, high pressure to the north of the islands will cause winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up
to 50 miles per hour in the advisory areas.
Light winds are expected in Hilo, but gusts ranging from 40 to 50 miles per hour are forecast for the Windward Kohala and Hamakua areas, Puna, Kona and Ka`u and 55 miles per hour in Leeward Kohala. Earlier today, the wind gauge atop Mauna Kea clocked easterly winds in excess of 80 miles per hour.
