A group of companies that handle human resources for small businesses are urging Governor Neil Abercrombie to veto a bill that they fear could force some of them out of business. Senate Bill 2424 would require the firms to begin paying fees ranging from
$2,500 to $10,000 every two years and hike the existing $250,000 bond threshold on all companies to between a half million and $1 million dollars for companies covering more
than 100 employees.
Industry leaders Pro Service Hawaii and Altres suggested draft language for the new bill
to amend the original law that took effect two years ago. But none of the smaller firms
were involved at the Legislature when the new bill was being drafted.
