Governor Neil Abercrombie has selected Native Hawaiian educator Colin Kippen to become the state’s new homeless coordinator. Kippen was the executive director of the National Indian Education Association in Washington D.C., and previously led the Native Hawaiian Education Council. He’ll guide an interagency council on homelessness that is preparing a strategic plan expected to be released in July. Abercrombie announced Kippen’s appointment at the state capitol, where he also signed a bill, which formally
establishes the interagency council under the Department of Human Services and requires the department of conduct a study on designating safe homeless facilities.
