Record spending from visitors to Hawaii

Visitors to Hawai`i set a new spending record for April this year, as total visitor spending climbed by 26.8 percent, pumping $1.17 billion into the state’s economy. The Hawai`i Tourism Authority says more visitors came to Hawai`i and spent more as daily spending
in April went up 10.4 percent to $194 per person. Visitor arrivals in April increased 11.3 percent to nearly 650 - thousand. Big Island expenditures jumped by 23.7 percent to
$141.4 million, while arrivals rose by 7.3 percent compared to April 2011, led by a 68 percent spike in growth from Japan and an 8.5 percent increase from Canada.
