Police are asking for the public’s assistance in helping farmers protect their crops following some major acts of vandalism within a 13 month period. On June 30, 2010, and again on July 19, 2011, numerous acres of papaya trees were cut down on Alohilani Road in the Kapoho area. Police have received a lot of information about the cases, but not enough that would lead to an arrest. In the meantime, they’re trying to prevent any new acts of agricultural vandalism, by asking anyone who observes suspicious or unusual activity in any of the farms to call 9-1-1 immediately. Anyone with information that doesn’t require immediate action can call the police non-emergency number at 935-3311, the Kuleana Hotline at 961-2219, or either Crime Stoppers number. A reward of up to $30,000 is still being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the responsible persons.
