As the public school year wraps up today, Governor Neil Abercrombie announced the release of more than $26.8 million for various Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) at school facilities statewide.
Two priority projects were identified for the Big Island by members of the state Legislature, and funds were approved and released by Governor Abercrombie.
They include $112,000 for additional construction to relocate or construct temporary facilities for Holualoa Elementary to meet enrollment shifts and other needs while $3 million was released for Hilo High School for additional construction for a new gymnasium, which will also serve as an emergency shelter for the community.
