Two men were killed and two more injured in a South Kohala crash early Sunday morning. Fire crews responded to an alarm of a two vehicle accident at 12:16 am Sunday (May 6) at the intersection of Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Hwy 19) and Kawaihae Road.
A full-size Ford pick-up truck and a Honda Civic collided at the intersection. The car had three males in their late teens or early twenties. The pick-up truck had a man in his 40s. Upon impact two of the sedan’s occupants were ejected from the vehicle and subsequently died.
According to police, the driver of the Honda Civic, who is in stable condition, was arrested on two counts of negligent homicide. The driver of the pickup truck was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Investigators say speed and alcohol may be a possible cause of the crash.
