Hawaiian flight attendants get 15 percent raise

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants have ratified a new contract that gives them a 15 percent raise over five years.

The president of Hawaiian's flight attendants union, Sharon Soper, said Wednesday the contract also calls for flight attendants to receive bonuses if the airline meets certain goals and targets.

The vote was close: "yes" votes accounted for 51.5 percent of the 740 ballots cast by Association of Flight Attendants members. Nearly 49 percent voted against the contract. Sixty-six percent of eligible voters cast ballots.

The contract covers Hawaiian's 1,350 flight attendants and will last through 2016.

CEO Mark Dunkerley says the contract recognizes the contributions the airline's flight attendants make the company's success. He says it provides cost stability as the airline adds more flights.
