(Honolulu-AP) -- Hundreds of family, friends and fans gathered on Waikiki Beach yesterday for a traditional beachboy funeral for actor and comedian Gilbert Lani Kauhi, better known as Zulu.
Kauhi died of complications from diabetes on May 3rd at Hilo Medical Center. He was 66.
Kauhi was best known for his role of detective Kono Kalakaua on the ``Hawaii Five-O'' television series. Actor James MacArthur, who played Danny ``Danno'' Williams on the show, was among those paying tribute.
Singers Danny Kaleikini and Melveen Leed led the group in songs before four canoes and a catamaran took the ashes beyond the surf break called Canoes for scattering.
After the service, family, beachboys and other friends gathered for a ``kanikapila,'' or music party, at Duke's Canoe House.
