HONOLULU (AP) — The College of Pharmacy at the University of Hawaii at Hilo has been granted full accreditation by the national agency that regulates pharmacy schools.
The university announced Wednesday the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education voted to award UH Hilo full accreditation for two years.
The accreditation comes after five years of intensive reviews.
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes the council as the national agency for the accreditation of professional degree programs in pharmacy.
UH Hilo becomes the first school of pharmacy in the Hawaii and the Pacific region to become fully accredited by the council.
Pharmacy schools become eligible for full accreditation after meeting certain standards and graduating their first group of students.
The first group of 84 doctors of pharmacy graduated from UH Hilo in May.
