(Honolulu-AP) -- Radio and television personality Brickwood Galuteria has been elected chairman of the Hawaii Democratic Party.
He defeated longtime party worker Jimmy Toyama in a ``weighted'' vote of 441-to-345 today at the conclusion of the party's annual state convention in Waikiki.
Before the Democrats wrapped up their meeting, they also heard speeches from U-S Senator Daniel Akaka and U-S Representative Neil Abercrombie. U-S Senator Daniel Inouye appeared in a video presentation.
Former presidential candidate Howard Dean rallied the Democrats in a keynote address yesterday.
