State Democrats gather to plan election year strategy

By Associated Press

(Honolulu-AP) -- The Hawaii Democratic Party convention gets underway in Waikiki tomorrow.

Items on the agenda for Democrats include electing delegates to this summer's Democratic National Convention in Boston and selecting a new state party chair.

Various elected officials are scheduled to rally the crowd with the keynote address delivered Saturday by former presidential candidate Howard Dean.

Tomorrow, former Lieutenant Governor Mazie Hirono plans to announce the formation of a new political action committee in honor of late Congresswoman Patsy Mink.

The new committee is patterned after organizations elsewhere that raise money for pro-choice, female Democratic candidates to Congress.
