UH astronomy director candidates visit this month
|

HONOLULU (AP) — The University of Hawaii at Manoa's Institute for Astronomy is inviting three finalists for its director position to give public presentations this month.
Each candidate is due to speak as part of separate four-day visits to the institute and astronomy facilities on Maui and the Big Island.
Gunther Hasinger, the scientific director of the Max Planck Institute of Plasma Physics in Germany, is due to address the community on Monday.
Current Institute for Astronomy associate director Robert McLaren goes second with a talk scheduled for Aug. 12.
University of Edinburgh Regius Professor of Astronomy Andrew Lawrence is due to speak on Aug. 16.
A fourth finalist, Brian Boyle of the Australia National Telescope Facility, has withdrawn his candidacy.
