HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Pharmacy giant Walgreen Co. has put up $10,000 to fund a diversity initiative at the University of Hawaii-Hilo College of Pharmacy.
A portion of the gift will fund a program to heighten student understanding of native Hawaiian culture.
The gift will also fund a scholarship for a pharmacy student who has made efforts to raise awareness or to educate others regarding diversity in pharmacy practice.
College of Pharmacy Dean John M. Pezzuto said Monday that the money will be put to good use to foster an appreciation of Hawaiian culture.
Walgreen also recently completed a $50,000 pledge to support the building fund for the college.
