HONOLULU (AP) — Officials have closed Hanauma Bay after dozens of box jellyfish were spotted in the bay.
A spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department says the bay was closed around 7:30 a.m. Sunday after lifeguards counted more than 40 box jellyfish in less than an hour.
More than 400 box jellyfish were also found at Yokohama Beach. Box jellyfish were also spotted at Ala Moana and Waikiki beaches.
Officials will evaluate the situation Monday morning before making a decision of when they should reopen Hanauma Bay.
