HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii's first public electric car charging station is set to open later this month.
Green Energy Outlet announced Wednesday that a station will become operational Jan. 23. It is located at 575 Cooke St. in the Kakaako area of Honolulu.
As part of the celebration, the firm says it will offer free charging through March.
Afterward, customers will be able to buy charges 24 hours a day by using a credit-card like device or calling a toll-free number.
Company President Frank Rogers says the station will begin to resolve the "chicken or egg" dilemma over what should come first, electric cars or charging stations.
He says prospective electric car buyers will be more comfortable if they know they can recharge their vehicles away from home.
