HONOLULU (AP) — The second week of a large international conference attended by thousands of Jehovah's Witnesses is due to begin Thursday.
Last week, almost 16,000 people attended the conference at the Hawaii Convention Center, which is located adjacent to Waikiki. Jehovah's Witnesses spokesman Steve Genardini says a larger crowd is expected for the second half of the event.
He says the number of Jehovah's Witnesses has risen worldwide since its last international convention five years ago, from more than 6.4 million to 7.1 million in 2008, the last year in which figures are available.
He says there are about 8,200 adherents in Hawaii.
