Man found guilty of shooting wife's lover

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — A jury found a former Waikoloa hotel worker guilty of second degree murder for shooting and killing his wife's longtime lover.
The 56-year-old Mateo shot 38-year-old Tito Rafol 18 times in the parking lot of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on March 8, 2007. The Big Island jury also found Lito Mateo guilty of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Mateo is facing a mandatory life sentence on the murder charge. He could get an additional 20 years for the firearms charge.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 4.
