Man found guilty of shooting wife's lover

HILO, Hawaii (AP) — A jury found a former Waikoloa hotel worker guilty of second degree murder for shooting and killing his wife's longtime lover. The 56-year-old Mateo shot 38-year-old Tito Rafol 18 times in the parking lot of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on March 8, 2007. The Big Island jury also found Lito Mateo guilty of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Mateo is facing a mandatory life sentence on the murder charge. He could get an additional 20 years for the firearms charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 4. (Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved)
