HONOLULU (AP) — An anonymous donor has given the University of Hawaii a $1 million gift that will allow the engineering program to bring world-class professors to the campus to teach.
The University of Hawaii Foundation announced the gift in a statement Tuesday.
The money will support an endowed chair called the Dr. Alfred A. Yee Visiting Professorship in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The donation will help pay the salary of an engineer who is considered an expert and who will teach undergraduate civil and environmental engineering.
Yee is the president of Applied Technology Corporation in Honolulu.
The donor says in the statement that Yee helped him early in his career.
He says he also wants Yee to be recognized for his accomplishments.
