HONOLULU (AP) — Hundreds of people turned out at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl to mark Veterans Day.
The commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific, Lt. Gen. Keith J. Stalder, was the keynote speaker at Wednesday's observance at the cemetery overlooking Honolulu.
Stalder said that on behalf of a grateful nation, he wished to thank veterans who served in times of war and in times of peace. He said America and its liberties continue to flourish because of their efforts.
The ceremony included a rifle salute, the playing of taps and a missing man flyover by F-15 jets from the Hawaii Air National Guard.
Music was provided by the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet Band, and the Pearl City Community Church Choir sang patriotic songs.
