HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Jarvis is returning home to Honolulu following a deployment to the Eastern Pacific that included a major drug seizure.
Commanding officer Capt. Aaron Davenport is to discuss the patrol after the vessel arrives Thursday at the Coast Guard base on Sand Island.
Coast Guard officials say the drug seizure occurred Oct. 21 after a U.S. Customs and Border Protection maritime patrol aircraft detected a self-propelled semi-submersible in international waters off the coast of Central America.
They say the 378-foot Jarvis intercepted and boarded the vessel, and found it was loaded with five tons of narcotics.
The crew of the Jarvis seized the vessel and detained its four crew members.
