Bunda running for lieutenant governor

By Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) — Democratic state Sen. Robert Bunda is touting his experience as he announces a run for lieutenant governor.

The lawmaker representing Wahiawa and the North Shore said yesterday that he would use common sense solutions to fix Hawaii's problems rather than simply list them.

Bunda was elected to the Senate in 1994, and was its leader before being replaced by Senate President Colleen Hanabusa in 2006. Bunda also served in the House from 1983 to 1994.

Bunda opposed same-sex civil unions last spring and cast a key vote that helped block the measure from advancing to the Senate floor.

Other Democrats in the race include Sens. Gary Hooser and Norman Sakamoto, Reps. Jon Riki Karamatsu and Rep. Lyla Berg, and Democratic Party Chairman Brian Schatz.
