HONOLULU (AP) — U.S. Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka say the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated more than $9.8 million for affordable housing in the islands.
The Hawaii Democrats said in a statement Tuesday the money comes from federal economic stimulus funds.
They say the money will encourage the development of affordable rental units in the islands.
The money will allow state housing finance agencies to continue funding affordable rental housing.
The senators say the money will also save and create construction jobs.
