NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — San Jose State's Dick Tomey took over today as president of the American Football Coaches Association.
Coaches elected Tomey -- who was the head coach at Hawaii from 1977 to 1986 -- during a lunch at their annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
Tyrone Willingham had served as president for the past year of the group with more than 10,000 members. He coached at the University of Washington from 2005 until last month.
Tomey had been first vice president of AFCA, which was founded in 1922.
